MILO AND BANGOR - Our mother was born in Ansonia, CT, on Feb. 4, 1919, the only child of Edward and Ethel Doyle. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 4, 2021, at the Veterans Home in Bangor, ME, at the age of 102 years and 7 months.
Mom moved to Guildford, ME, with her parents as a young child, and in Guildford she enjoyed a wonderful childhood. She graduated from Guildford High School in 1938. She was a star basketball player and captain of her basketball team. She met her future husband, Garfield "Gip" Harris, her freshman year of high school. They were married on Feb. 11, 1940, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage until Dad's passing in 1996.
Mom loved life and loved people. Her legacy of unconditional love and kindness lives on through her family. She is survived by her son, Garfield Edward Harris (Lorraine) of Winn, ME; and daughter, Valerie Webster (Arthur) of Hampden, ME; and grandchildren, Lorrie Bird (Tom) of Glenburn, ME, Randy Harris (Patty) of Lee, ME, Mark Harris (Gayle) of Bangor, ME, Julie Bullock (Bill) of Holden, ME, Steven Webster of Tampa, FL, Terri Rodick (Eric) of Southwest Harbor, ME, Jon Michael Cookson (Christine) of Burke, VA, Heather Miller (Heath) of Newburgh, ME, and Blake Harris of Bangor, ME. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to recognize Lorrie Bird (Tom) of Glenburn, ME, who unselfishly attended to her grandmothers' affairs and needs the past few years. Secondly, we would like to recognize Heather Miller (Heath) for having Gram live with her on several occasions when Gram could not (for health reasons) live by herself. Also, we would like to recognize Sue Holt a special friend of Mom's who Mom often referred to as "the sister" I never had.
Thanks go out to The Country Villa in Bangor, where Mom resided for 4 years prior to going to the Veterans Home in May 2021. Mom loved "The Villa" and loved the people there. Mom was the happiest she could be while living at "The Villa."
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Garfield Gip Harris, in 1996; her son, Albert Jeff Harris, in 2020; her grandson, Scottie, in 1988; her granddaughter, Traci, in 2001; and 3 great-grand Angel babies.
Mom (Gram, Nana, Bubba, Aunt and Friend) was a tough ole gal, who lived independently until almost 100 years old. She was a kind and gentle soul, who was loved by all that knew her.
Mom was a huge sports fan and particularly loved the sports teams of Lee Academy (where her grandson, Randy Harris, coaches). Donations in Moms name, E. Lavon Harris, may be sent to: The Theresa Knowles Fund, care of Kendra Ritchie, 283 Cobb Rd., Lee, ME 04455. Theresa Knowles most recently passed away and left 4 young boys for her husband, Aaron (who is the assistant baseball and soccer coach at Lee Academy) to raise. Donations will assist Aaron in this endeavor.
A service will be held at a later date.
