MILO - Kirby P. Robertson, 62, beloved husband and father, died unexpectedly and peacefully at home on May 10, 2014. He was born April 5, 1952, in Milo, the son of Paul and Denice (Stevens) Robertson.

A kind and gentle man, he loved his children, animals, family, especially his twin brother, Kevin, the railroad, music and public radio. He was very smart guy who was the biggest threat in our group of friends during the Trivial Pursuit era. Get Kirby for a partner and you won. Period. Katie and Ben and their friends gave him the most joy. He loved, adored and was completely and unfailingly proud of their every accomplishment. He passed on his love of good music and food to his children. He loved his children's friends like they were his own. Kirby loved the rails, but the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and everything about it had his heart. He enjoyed the years working on the B & A thoroughly. Every family excursion included something track related. Sometimes even a tract of land that he thought might have been where tracks once existed was a destination! He enjoyed getting to hang out with his Facebook friends and making connections with classmates. He loved "The County" and was a County Boy at heart. His amazing work ethic was molded by his Ma and Pa, who had their boys digging potatoes at a young age for extra money for the family. Kirby thought his childhood was perfect and turned out to be amazingly kind and generous because of his experiences. In his younger days he was the World's Most Devout Sebec River Rat. He left his camp for his son, Ben, because it was one of his greatest possessions and accomplishments. He always said that building that camp with Tony Gonzales and Eric Bailey was the best summer of his life. Every one of Katie and Ben's friends think of that camp and Kirby as one; times spent there were perfect. Kirby enjoyed day trips with his brother, Kevin, researching and learning the histories of small Maine towns. He was a good listener, and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie; a son, Benjamin Robertson, and his girlfriend, Angela Repella; a daughter, Katie Joyner Robertson and her husband, Eric Joyner; his twin brother, Kevin and his wife, Patty, and their children, Sarah Robertson and Dr. Andrew Robertson; a brother, Jody Robertson; a special brother-in-law, Joel Vail; and an uncle, Charles "Stevie" Stevens. He was predeceased by his parents, and a nephew, Nathan Robertson.

A Celebration of Life and a toast in memory of Kirby will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Hobnobbers Restaurant, Milo. A service for the family will be announced at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to P.A.W.S., PO Box 81, Milo, ME 04463. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home, Milo. Condolences and memories may be expressed at
