Evelyn Mae (Jones) Kubicki

AUGUSTA - Evelyn Mae Kubicki, 88, died Dec. 25, 2011, at Sylvia Ross Home, Bangor. She was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Brownville Junction, daughter of Henry and Ida (Barker) Jones. She attended schools in Bangor and was a 1941 graduate of Stearns High School, Millinocket. She graduated from Oxford School of Business Administration, Cambridge, Mass. She graduated as a registered nurse from the nursing school at Augusta General Hospital. She worked as a registered nurse at Augusta and Gardiner General hospitals, then at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Togus, where she retired as head nurse in 1983. Evelyn enjoyed her family, knitting, quilting and bingo. Evelyn made many beautiful quilts and traveled to quilting shows all over the East Coast with her quilting friends. She knitted many mittens, hats, sweaters and socks for family and friends. She and Eddie loved spending time at their camp on Moosehead Lake with family and friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Edward; sister, Lila Mae Davis; daughter, Shirlie Fritz; and granddaughters, Rebecca White and Kim and Karen Roberts. She is survived by daughters, Joyce Verhille and husband, James, of Sebring, Fla., and Patricia Doughty and husband, Richard, of Levant; son, Peter Kubicki of Augusta; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The family thanks Katie Lawson, F.N.P., for her compassion and care, and the staff at Sylvia Ross Home, as well as Ross Manor for the wonderful care Evelyn received. A memorial service and burial will be at a later date. Memorial donations in Evelyn's name may be directed to F.A.C.T.S.
