John K. Lyford Sr.

ORNEVILLE - John K. Lyford Sr., 68, husband of the late Adelia (Jack) Lyford, died Nov. 24, 2011, at home. He was born April 21, 1943, in Orneville, the son of Percy Jr. and Elnora (Dunbar) Lyford. On June 25, 1960, Johnny married the love of his life, Adelia and together they shared 51 years of marriage, had four wonderful children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Johnny started trucking at age 15 and continued driving for more than 50 years. He loved the sound of his Cat engines and the jake brake. He enjoyed junking and telling endless stories of the good old days, how he met the love of his life, hand-loading wood and many other favorites. The joys in his life were his wife, his family and friends, and his grand dog, Chunkie. He is survived by his mother, Elnora Lyford of LaGrange; four children, John K. Lyford Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, of LaGrange, Kathleen M. Foss and her husband, Jim, of Orneville, Penny Madore of Corinth and Wendy Coburn and her husband, Rob, of Milo; 11 grandchildren, Erica Lyford, Trevor Lyford, Robert Robinson, Kyle Foss, Lacey Madore and P.J. Madore, a special grandson, Jacey Lyford, Jon Coburn, Linda Coburn, Robert Coburn and Tessa Brannen, whom he thought of as a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas Lyford and Melony Pelton. He also leaves two sisters, Beryle Johnston and her husband, Kempton, and Betty Turtlott and her husband, Ronnie; and a brother, Percy James Lyford III and his wife, Gayle. He was predeceased by his father; his beloved wife; and a grandson, Todd Roesing. A graveside memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. After the service friends and family are invited to the home of Kathleen and Jim Foss for a time of sharing. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
