MILO - Nathalie D. Harris, beloved wife of the late Lewis Harris, went home to be with her loved ones Oct. 11, 2011. Nat was born June 14, 1917, in Charleston, one of 11 children to Henry and Ruth (Webber) Dunham. She graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston, in 1938. Growing up she learned hard work, family values, love and faith, and carried those values throughout her life. She trained at Eastern Academy of Hairdressers and started her career as a hairdresser. She worked a few years in the salon for Janette Murphy and then traveled from home to home to do hair for customers who would later become lifelong friends. She continued working well into her 80s before a broken knee slowed her down and would eventually cause her to retire. Nat was a faithful member of Park Street United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Ayuda Club, Neighborly Christmas Club, Garden Club, Senior Citizens Club, American Legion Post No. 41 Auxiliary, and Meals for ME, where she volunteered her time twice a week. She was a loving and caring person to everyone in her life. Nat also loved to knit, crochet and cook. Nat is survived by her sister, Dot Minott of Ellsworth; two sisters-in-law, Carol Dunham of Corinth and Lavon Harris of Bangor; and six grandchildren, Laurie Cates and her husband, Scott, of Old Town, Ryan Harris and his wife, Karen, of Bangor, Reid Harris and his wife, Cris, of New Hampshire, Tina Vanidestine and her husband, Ed, of Brewer, Lance Harris of Milo, and Michael Harris and his wife, Kelly, of Milo. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alyssa Harris, Kendall and Aiden Harris, and Grady and Lauren Vanidestine; many loving nieces and nephews, including three special people, Norman, Bobby and Janey. Nat will be sadly missed by her special friends, "the Golden Girls," Trelba Rollins, Gloria Lutterell, Dot Trask, Jean Robinson, Norma Randall, Carolyn Sinclair, Vesta LeBretton, and her beloved pastor and friend, Michele St. Cyr; as well as her card playing friends, Kay, Gerry and Althea. Nat was predeceased by her husband, Lewis; her beloved son, Murrell Harris and a very special daughter-in-law, Laurel Harris; brothers, Merle "Sam," Ted, Carl, Claude, Charlie and Earl Dunham; and sisters, Evelyn Turner, Pauline Riley and Madeline Patterson. Friends are invited to call 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, until time of funeral service 11 a.m. at Park Street United Methodist Church, Milo, with the Rev. Michele St. Cyr officiating.
