HOLDEN - Katherine Mae (Kyer) Rice, 72, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at a local hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Bangor, daughter of Thomas and Redita (Doak) Kyer. Kathy grew up in Milo and attended local schools. She was employed at Penobscot Veterinary Clinic and Z.F. Lemforder Corp. Kathy enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her children and rides in the country with her husband. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and quick wit. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Francis Rice; children, Denise Michaud and her husband, Al, of Saco, Josh McLaughlin and his wife, Krissy, of Plant City, Fla., Bobbi Canales and her husband, Val, of Mary Esther, Fla., James McLaughlin and his companion, Kathi, of Bangor and Bruce McLaughlin of Bangor; stepchildren, Billy Rice of Daytona, Fla., Bobby Rice of Green Lake, Eddie Rice of Bangor, Tommy Rice of Daytona, Fla., Chuckie Rice of Holden, Danny Rice of Oakland Park, Fla., and Ellen Andrews of Sheboygan, Wis.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A special friend of Bill W., Kathy will be missed and fondly remembered by her many friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Patrick McLaughlin; daughter, Rhonda Bernard; brother, Charles Kyer; and sister, Shirley Brawn. Family and friends are invited to share memories of Kathy's life and attend a celebration of life ceremony 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at Bangor Elks Lodge. A private burial will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a later date. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
