ATKINSON - Carolyn (Knowlton) Doore passed away peacefully June 8, 2011, with her family by her side at Hibbard Nursing Home. She was born March 25, 1934, the first child of the late Carroll and Florence Knowlton. Carolyn attended Foxcroft Academy, where she excelled at playing basketball. A story is told that during one game she scored more points by herself than the entire boys' team scored in their game together. Her class was the first class to graduate from the new Foxcroft Academy in 1952. Carolyn was very proud of receiving the Husson Award, which was awarded to students who excelled in business courses. In 1953, Carolyn married Malcolm Doore and they resided in Atkinson. Together they built a successful dairy farm. They had two daughters, Katherine and Loretta. Not only did Carolyn work on the family farm, she also worked for Piscataquis County, first in the Superior Court office and then as county clerk. She found her job very fulfilling and her extraordinary work ethic was a shining example for her family members. She retired in 2004 after 30 years of service. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm, in 2001; her brother, Roger Knowlton, in 2007; and her parents. Carolyn is survived by her children, Katherine Kinney and her husband, Mark, and Loretta Nuite and her husband, Lewis, all of Atkinson. She was very proud of her four grandchildren and their accomplishments, Megan (Kinney) Bard and her husband, Dan, of Old Town, Marnelle (Kinney) Grumbach and her husband, Morgan, of Westbrook, Larae (Nuite) Chambers and her husband, William, of Duncan, Okla., and Caleb Nuite and his wife, Nicole, of Atkinson. Carolyn also enjoyed her four great-grandchildren, Aaron and Levi Bard of Old Town and Kierstyn and Grayden Nuite of Atkinson. Her fifth great-grandchild is expected to arrive in October in Duncan, Okla. She is survived by two sisters, Beverly Carsley of Newport and Linda Hews and her husband, Ken, of Bowerbank; many special nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend and neighbor, Cathie Goodine and her husband, Greg. A special thank you goes out to Carolyn's at-home caregivers, Kathy Dow, Sharon Emery, Cheryl Pingree, Rosemarie Guay and Cathie Goodine; and also to the caring staff at Hibbard Nursing Home. Visiting hours will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Dover-Foxcroft United Baptist Church, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. with Pastor Chris Viera Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Sweet Cemetery, Atkinson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tilton/Carsley Mission Fund, care of United Baptist Church, 146 East Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at
