Laurel Ellison Harris

MILO - Laurel Ellison Harris, 63, died very unexpectedly Sunday June 20, 2010, at her home. She was born Nov. 8, 1946, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Dean) Ellison. Laurel was employed at Dexter Shoe for several years and then became a waitress for various restaurants in town. Laurel's personality was one that made her a lot of friends, in town and out. She knew her customers so well most of them would wait to be seated in her section. Laurel's work ethic was one to be proud of and was passed down to her children. She instilled in them the importance of helping others, doing right, and working for what you received. Not only did her children benefit from this life lesson, so did a lot of others including her brothers and sister.

Laurel was a member of the Milo Fireman's Auxiliary, Secret Santa, and Three Rivers Kiwanis where for the past two years she took great pride in the sale of the birthday calendar. Laurel was a dedicated volunteer for the Rec Department Snack Shack. Laurel's family considered her their rock. Anything that needed to be done for anyone, family or friends, was done with love and compassion. She was a true friend and a gift to everyone's lives she touched.

Laurel was predeceased by her parents, her husband Maurice Hall, her husband Murrel Harris, brothers John Henry and Thomas Dean Ellison. She is survived by three brothers, Dougie and his wife, Mona, of Greene, Bobby and his wife, Tanya, of Medford, Louie and his wife, Lori, of Milo; one sister, Lana, of Milo; two daughters, Laurie Cates and her husband, Scott, of Old Town,Tina Vanidestine and her husband, Ed, of Brewer; two sons, Lance Harris of Holden, Michael Harris and his wife Karen, of Bangor, and Reid Harris and his wife, Cris, of Henniker, NH; eight grandchildlren, Nathan, Kristin, Jacob, Alyssa, Kendall, Aiden, Grady and Lauren; several nieces , nephews and cousins. She will greatly be missed by Kelly York, Sheila Ellis, Val Robertson and her special sister, Lana.

Friends are invited to call 5-8 pm Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Lary Funeral Home in Milo. A celebration of life will be held 11 am Friday, June 25, at the Milo Baptist Church, with Rev. Michele St. Cyr officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Laurel will be laid to rest along with her husband Murrel.
