WINTHROP/MILO - Ronald John Millier, 77, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, after a long illness.

He was born in Newton, Mass., on May 25, 1933, the son of Albert Edward and Lily Elizabeth (Cotton) Millier.

Ronnie graduated from Winthrop High School, class of 1952, before enlisting in the Army, serving his country during the Korean War as a medic. After his honorary discharge from the service, he continued his education at the University of Maine, Orono, graduating in 1959.

He began his employment with Merrill Trust Co. of Bangor, where he worked from 1960 to 1967 until moving to Sanford Trust Company, where he remained until his relocation to Depositors Trust Co. in 1969. It was there, with more than 30 years of banking experience, that he retired as vice president from what came to be Key Bank in Augusta.

Ronnie served as treasurer of several national and international skating competitions, was on the board of directors of the United States Figure Skating Association, and was a founding member of the Skating Club of Maine.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Piscataquis, member of the board of directors of the Augusta Area Chamber of Commerce, Winthrop Water District, Milo Community Hospital and chairman of the board of directors of the Milo School Board, as well as the board of trustees of Cobbossee Water District. He was also vice chairman of the Winthrop School Building Committee, president of Kennebec County University of Maine Alumni Committee, and a member of Capital Area Airport Commission, executive committee of the State School Board Association of Maine, and Lions Club International.

Ronnie was an avid golfer and loved the Red Sox. He was a loyal friend to many and cherished his times playing cards with close friends. However, most important to Ronnie was making the time to be his children's No. 1 supporter throughout their activities.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas Millier.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Priscilla Bickford Millier, of Winthrop; his two children, Cathy O'Brien and her husband, Jim, of Midland, Mich., and John Millier and his partner, Dan Hawks, of Atlanta; a brother, Edward Millier, of Florida; his sister, Evelyn Larrabee, of Auburn; his grandchildren, Kristin, Michael and Christopher O'Brien; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful friend, "Lovette."

At Ronnie's request, there will be no public visiting hours. A celebration of his life will be held graveside, with full military honors, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, at the old Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. All are encouraged to continue in the celebration at a reception immediately after at the American Legion, Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. Post 40 in Winthrop.

The family wishes donations in Ronnie's memory be made to the United States Figure Skating Memorial Fund, made payable to U.S. Figure Skating, Attn.: Memorial Fund, 20 First St., Colorado Springs, CO 80906, or charity of your choice (in the memo: In Memory of Ronald Millier).
