Verna R. Partridge Coakley

KENDUSKEAG - Verna R. (Brown) Partridge Coakley, 87, went home to her Lord Friday, Jan. 29, 2010. She was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Milo, daughter of Clinton A. and Doris E. (Stanchfield) Brown. Verna was a 1941 graduate of Milo High School. She and her late husband, John, were very active in several veterans' organizations, including Veterans of Foreign Wars Norman N. Dow Post No. 1761, where she was past auxiliary president and past district president; the Disabled American Veterans; American Legion No. 84, Orono, past president; and MOCA past president and past grand president. She was also a member of Eagles Club Arie Auxiliary No. 3177 and a member of Kenduskeag Union Church. She held several jobs throughout her life taking time out to raise her children. Her last place of employment was at Taylor Osteopathic Hospital, Bangor, where she worked for 15 years with many promotions. She retired in 1988 as director of housekeeping. Verna enjoyed her children growing up and always had animals around. She liked to knit, read, go camping and write poems. She also had a large collection of eagle statues that she loved. Her dog, Keisha; and her three cats, Morris, Max and Mindi, were her constant companions and they will greatly miss her. Verna is survived by two sons, Clinton H. Partridge of Bangor and Ronald A. Partridge and his wife, Cindi M., of Glenburn; two daughters, Leonardine V. Strout and her husband, Sheldon E., of Hudson and Patricia R. Hammill and her husband, Kenneth C., of Bangor; three stepdaughters, Barbara Lindsey of Florida, Gail Dunifer of Hermon and Terry Gray of Connecticut; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn J. Kelly of Milo; and a brother, William A. Brown of Windham. She was predeceased by her former husband, Leonard F. Partridge Sr.; her son, Leonard F. Partridge Jr.; two brothers, Lawrence Z. Brown and Nelson W. Brown; a stepdaughter, Lorraine F. Strout; a daughter-in-law, Anna Mae Partridge; her beloved husband of 31 years, John E. Coakley Jr.; several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Kenduskeag Union Church, 826 Levant Road, Kenduskeag, with Pastor Ruth Guerette officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at Kenduskeag Village Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Verna in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Kenduskeag Union Church, 826 Levant Road, Kenduskeag, ME 04450. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Don't weep for me when I am gone, be glad for me, rejoice. For I am with my maker now, there is no better choice. So gather round me loved ones, pay heed to what I say. Although you cannot see me, I'll not be far away. Be good to one another, be all that you can be. Some day when your time comes, then again you'll be with me. I'll be watching over you from heaven up above, so don't remember me with tears, remember me with love.
