Elva Pomroy

CAPE ELIZABETH - Elva J. Pomroy, 88, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 29, 1921, in Atkinson, she was the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Hardy) Harvey. Elva was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston. She married Paul W. Pomroy in 1942, and while he was in the service during the war they lived in Key West, Fla.; Dearborn, Mich.; Washington, D.C.; and Waltham, Mass. After the war they settled in Bangor and moved to Cape Elizabeth in 1966. Elva loved to bowl and bowled in several leagues, she enjoyed golfing, square dancing, reading, the Boston Red Sox and Celtics, her camp on Sebec Lake, and volunteering for Cub Scouts. Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Pomroy and wife, Elena, of Stratham, N.H.; daughters, Kerry Pomroy of Sarasota, Fla., and Pamela Dwelley and husband, Douglas, of Winter Haven, Fla.; grandchildren, Mason Pomroy, Gregg Dwelley, Alan Dwelley, Courtney Pomroy, Laura Orcutt and Sara Orcutt; and four great-granddaughters. In addition to her husband who died in 1991, she was predeceased by her siblings, Maxine Gordon, Florence Plummer, Addison Harvey and Lawrence Harvey. A graveside service will be held noon Saturday, Nov. 28, at North Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson. Friends are invited. A lunch gathering will be after at Sebec 4 Corners Event Center.
