AVON PARK, FL - Richard Maurice Moore passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at home. He was born April 30, 1937, in Milo. He was a graduate of Milo High School. In 1959 he graduated from Husson College, where he played basketball. He was inducted into Husson College Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991. After graduation he taught and coached at Higgins Classical Institute. In 1967 he began his longtime career with Commercial Union Insurance. He started as a claims adjuster and was manager of Bangor claims office, when he retired in 1997. Prior to his retirement, he and his wife, Cynthia, renovated their dream house on Summer Street, Hampden. He took great pride in caring for apple trees and flower gardens there. We will remember the cider press gatherings in the fall and the family holiday parties held at that house. Upon retirement they moved to Highlands Ridge in Avon Park, Fla. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed a friendly bet on a round of golf. His passion for gardening continued and he thoroughly enjoyed his gardens at Highlands Ridge. The things that meant the most to him were the family times like lobster feeds at the camp at Schoodic Lake, fishing trips to West Branch Pond, golfing with Cynthia and friends, and frequent excursions to Disney World. He kept in close touch with his grandchildren whether by texting them and/or attending their activities. He married Cynthia Hamlin in August 1959 whom he loved deeply. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family filled weekend at Bar Harbor and a party at Schoodic Lake the next day. He had so enjoyed the celebration and it provided his family with some very special memories. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; and his three children, Cheryl and her husband, Bill Michaud, of Hampden, Patty and her husband, Chip Green, of Apopka, Fla., and Rick and his wife, Lucienne Moore, of Hampden. He was very proud of his eight grandchildren, Austin and Anna Michaud, Chase, Lauren and Luke Green, Jacob, Whitney and Conary Moore. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sebring High School-Girls Golf Team, 3514 Kinelworth Blvd., Sebring, FL 33870, Attn: Terry Quarles, AD.
