Ruth Crowley

FARMINGTO - Ruth L. Crowley, 91, died March 22, 2009, in Farmingdale. She was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Sebec, the daughter of William A. and Ila M. (Lamson) Levensalor. In 1942 she married E. Francis Crowley of Greenville. In 1957 she and her family moved to Augusta, and she and her husband lived in Florida from 1977 until his death in 2002. She was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, Colby College and Boston University School of Law. After private practice in Greenville, she was the first woman appointed to the post of assistant attorney general for the state of Maine. Ruth was a past matron of Susie Carr Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, OES, and a past worthy grand matron of the Maine OES. She and her husband traveled extensively and volunteered at hospices in Florida and Maine. She is survived by her son, William F. Crowley and his wife, Diane, of Farmingdale; granddaughter, Cheryl Skaggs and her husband, Charles, of Bennett, Colo.; great-granddaughters, Jessica Smith of Denver and Tanya Smith of Fort Collins, Colo.; and nephew, George W. Levensalor of Millinocket. At Ruth's request, there will be no services. Burial will be later in the spring in Greenville. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Kennebec County.
