Phyllis W. Gould

MILO - Phyllis West Gould, 97, wife of the late Fred "Ted" Gould, went home to be with her Lord Jan. 17, 2009, surrounded by her loving family and special friends, at a Bangor health care facility. Phyllis was born Aug. 9, 1911, in East Providence, R.I., daughter of Leonard S. and Molly (Chase) West. She lived in Brownville Junction during her early years and in 1929 graduated salutatorian from Brownville Junction High School. On June 27, 1931, she married Fred "Ted" Gould and moved to Milo. Phyllis was employed by Milo Hospital and Daggett's Drug Store, Milo. Phyllis was an active and faithful member of Milo United Baptist Church and several community organizations. Phyllis is survived by a son, Willis Gould and wife, Emily, of Powell, Ohio; a daughter, Esther Trask and husband, Bourke, of Holden; four grandchildren, Sandra O'Brien of Hampden, Kathleen Robertson and husband, Timothy, of Glenburn, John O'Brien and wife, RaShanna, of Hudson and Lynn Clemans of Dayton, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren, Shawna Owen and husband, Charles, of Orrington, Sarah Pelletier of Hampden, Michael and Eric Clemans of Dayton, Ohio. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; a sister, Evelyn Stearns; and a brother, Leonard West. Phyllis was lovingly cared for by the staff at Stillwater Health Care, who are considered an extension of her family. The family expresses a special thank you to Hospice of Eastern Maine for their compassion, love and support during Phyllis' time of need. Phyllis was also loved by many friends and community members. Friends are invited to visit 1-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Milo United Baptist Church, with a service 2 p.m. in celebration of the life of Phyllis West Gould. The family invites all to join in refreshments and conversation after the service.
