Henry R. Rhoda

MILO - Henry Roscoe Rhoda, 92, husband of Florence (Gordon) Rhoda, died Oct. 2, 2008, at a Yarmouth health care facility. He was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Milo, the son of Fred W. and Sybil (Emery) Rhoda. A graduate of Milo High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army before World War II began and served until his release at the end of the war. He went to work for Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, retiring after many years. Henry married Florence Gordon of Dexter and acquired three stepchildren, Wendell, Robert and Judith Gross. Later their child, Gail, was born. He raised dairy cows and a big garden, supplying the family with all their needs. His many acts of kindness were done quietly and without acclaim. He was master of the Milo Grange for two years, during which time many improvements on the grange hall were made. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served there faithfully throughout his life until taken ill with Alzheimer's disease. Henry is survived by his wife, Florence; and their children, Wendell Gross, Robert Gross, Judith Rosebush and Gail Thibodeau; a brother, Kenneth; a sister, Doris; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dover-Foxcroft. Burial will be in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 170 Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105.
