Miriam Drinkwater Garrett

BANGOR - Miriam "Miri" (Drinkwater) Garrett, 85, died peacefully Sept. 24, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. Born Aug. 21, 1923, in Sebec. Miri graduated from Foxcroft Academy, and then Elliot Hospital School of Nursing, Manchester, N.H. She lived most of her adult life in Altadena, Calif., working as a registered nurse at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena, Calif., then in private care. Miri was a devout member of First United Methodist Church and the UMW Hilltoppers group in Pasadena, Calif. She was predeceased by both parents, Stella (Smith) Drinkwater and Zebulon D. Drinkwater; brothers, Zebulon D. Drinkwater Jr. and Richard D. Drinkwater; sister, Marcadais "Honey" Black; and beloved niece, Lori E. Drinkwater. She is survived by her loving sister-in-law, Alice (Drinkwater) Leeman of Brewer; nieces, Karen D. Reynolds of Winterport and Mitzi (Black) Paul of Millinocket; nephews, Hubert Black of Framingham, Mass., Paul Black of South Portland, Peter Black of Ellsworth; and all of their spouses. She is also survived by her adored great-niece, Jane Miriam Jacobs of San Francisco; 14 other great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, several cousins and close friends. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Stillwater Healthcare for their loving and attentive care. With respect to Miri's wishes, no service will be held. In honor of her lifelong example of selfless generosity, donations may be made in her honor to a charity of your choice.
