DERBY - Corinne (Marquis) Petrie, resident of Pleasant Meadows, Dover-Foxcroft, passed away peacefully March 4, 2007, to return to our heavenly Father and the family members she so longed to be near. She was born May 23, 1911, in Frenchville, a daughter of the late Willie and Grace (Morin) Marquis of Millinocket. She was married to the late Edward F. Petrie Sr., who was tragically killed in a 1949 Bangor and Aroostook Railway accident. Corinne remained in Derby and single-handedly raised her six children. She worked for several families in the community. She took pride in all her children's accomplishments and achievements and was most proud knowing they all graduated from high school. She was a devout Catholic and a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft. Corinne was a fine example to others and a woman of her faith. In her later years, after raising her family, she became the first resident to occupy an apartment at Thayer Parkway Senior Housing Complex, Dover-Foxcroft, living there for more than 30 years. She was honored several times as to the length of her residency. She loved feeding the birds and squirrels and the beauty of the deer roaming in her back yard. In 2006, she moved to Pleasant Meadows and was so appreciative of the wonderful care and concerns the staff exhibited toward her being comfortable. She looked forward to her 2 p.m. tea and sweets and the visits from her family and friends. She was from a musical family and enjoyed listening to music and dancing with her sisters. Even in her 90s, she was known to move that walker around a little and sashay a wee bit when she heard a song that had the beat. She is survived by her children, Beatrice (Petrie) and Maurice Knowles of Maxfield, Linda (Petrie) and Howard Foster of Sunflower, Miss., Edward and Madeline (Jones) Petrie of Dover-Foxcroft, Cleo (Petrie-McSorley) and Robert Manfria of Avenel, N.J., and Ronald and Patricia (Vickers) Petrie, USN, retired, of Middletown, R.I. Nana will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Roxanne (McSorley) Martynowski, Valerie Manfria, Leisa (Petrie) Perry, Erick Petrie, Edward Petrie III, Michelle (Foster) Free, Kenneth Foster, Mark, Ryan and Kelly Knowles, Paula (Petrie) Lynch, Ron Petrie Jr., and Robert Petrie; and one great-grandchild. Some of her happiest times were with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Corinne was predeceased by her eldest son, Roger Petrie of Albion; her loving sisters, Lorencene (Marquis) Blair and Hilda (Marquis) Maillet, both of Millinocket, and Edna (Marquis) Estes of Milo; and her brothers, Roland Marquis, KIA, World War II, and Robert Marquis of East Hampton, Conn. At her request, a memorial Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church will be celebrated in the spring, with Fr. James Robichaud, celebrant. After the service, burial will be in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 6th Floor, New York, NY 10001, in memory of her loving son, Roger Petrie, or to Resident Activities Fund, Pleasant Meadows, P.O. Box 527, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Milo.
