Ward L. Shaw

BREWER - Ward L. Shaw, 90, husband of the late Frances (Duran) Shaw, passed away peacefully May 5, 2006, in Brewer. He was born April 14, 1916, in Milo, the son of James Lewis Shaw and Hazel (Ward) Oliver. He was an Eagle Scout and in 1931, took a cross-country trip to California. He graduated from Milo High School in 1934. He later attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from the Maine School of Commerce. Ward was a World War II veteran and a member of the 152nd National Guard Field Artillery Band, which performed throughout the South. He was a well-known trumpet player and taught brass instruments at the Northern Conservatory of Music. He played in many dance bands and was a member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Bangor Band and the Brewer Hometown Band. Ward worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad, retiring after 30 years in 1981. He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Constance J. and Douglas M. Williams of Hampton, N.H.; a son and his wife, Bruce W. and Peggy C. Shaw of Brewer; a son, Richard R. Shaw of Bangor; a granddaughter, Jean F. Shaw; and three grandsons, Jason D. Williams, Jeremy D. Williams and Brandon B. Shaw. He is also survived by a sister and her husband, Mary and Richard Lobuglio of Scarborough; three nieces and three cousins. A public committal ceremony will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at the Corinthian Cemetery in Corinth. Guests are invited to his son, Bruce's home, 8 Crescent St., Brewer, for refreshments and conversation after the ceremony.
