Eldred L. Harrington

PARKMAN AND SANGERVILLE - Eldred L. Harrington, 87, passed away peacefully at his son's home Feb. 1, 2006, in Dixmont. Eldred was born June 22, 1918, in Sangerville. He worked for many years for Fay Scott Company, Dexter and retired from Keyes Fibre Company, Waterville, where he was employed as a mechanical engineer. He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed at Great Ashfield in England for much of the war. During his tour of duty he was in radio communications assigned to the 385th Heavy Bombardment Group. He also was on active duty during the Korean War and was stationed for a time in Japan. Prior to being drafted during World War II, he was in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Stott-Flanders American Legion Post No. 165 and the Abner Wade Masonic Lodge in Sangerville. For many years he and his sons operated a Christmas tree farm based in Sangerville and was a member of the Maine Christmas-Tree Growers Association. After his retirement, he was active in the Sangerville Historical Society. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene G. Harrington; and was predeceased by his eldest son, Michael H. Harrington of Bradford. Wife of the late Michael, Mercer Harrington, of Corinth also survives him along with her daughter, Angelina Bosowicz and her husband, Jason and their daughter, Morgan, of Billings, Mont. and Mercer's son, Corey Cowperthwaite and his wife, Michelle, of Corinth. He is also survived by his son, Patrick G. Harrington and his wife, Marcia; and two grandchildren, Jayson and Shanara, all of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and his son, Allen L. Harrington and his wife, Jessica, of Dixmont; several cousins, Malcolm Herring, Mary Sally, Neola Davis and George "Bud" Allen; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with Pastor David Kelly, officiating.
