BROWNVILLE - Juanita Stubbs Platner, 75, of Kingfield, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston surrounded by members of her family. She was born at her home on Church Street in Brownville, on Aug. 29, 1929, daughter of Flora Ladd and Roland Stubbs Sr., who predeceased her. She graduated from Weymouth High School in Massachusetts in 1947 and was employed for many years at the Granite Trust Bank in Quincy, Mass. In 1963, she married Nelford J. Platner who survives her. They both lived in Kingfield and wintered on Sanibel Island, Fla. for many years. "Neet" was actively involved in her communities, both north and south, and will be very much missed by everyone who knew her. Her Kingfeld flower gardens brought much pleasure to all who saw them. A long time volunteer at the Kingfield Historical Society, Neet served many years as hostess, president and archivist, and helped arrange a large variety of Kingfield Days displays. A strong supporter of her Florida church activities, Neet earned a reputation as an excellent cook. For many years she collected seashells on the Sanibel Island beaches and arranged them artistically into a variety of unique gifts. She is survived by four sisters, Martha Sabans, Lettie Gibb, Violet Artus and Bonnie Butterfield; one brother, Roland Stubbs Jr.; three stepchildren and four stepgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Oct. 11, at the Brownville Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to the Brownville Community Church, care of George Richardson Jr., P.O. Box 334, Brownville, ME 04414.
